Hosting an orphan in your home

Nina, DOB: July 9, 1998

…You don’t need a lot. Let’s start with a heart full of Christ’s love. A roof and a few walls. A warm place to sleep, food to fill a little one’s tummy.

There is this belief that to do something, we must have a lot of something– whether it be money, time, or energy. But children don’t need the fanciest gadgets. They don’t need your every waking minute. They don’t need you to carry them around on your shoulders for hours on end (though they might really enjoy all of these things…).

The Bible doesn’t tell us to help when we’ve finally achieved wealth, or have enough time on our hands. We’re simply told over and over again to care for orphans:

“In you the orphan finds mercy.”
Hosea 14:3

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.”
Proverbs 31:8-9

“Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.”
Isaiah 1:17

“And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.”
Matthew 18:5

Please consider hosting a child this winter.
